Exciting New Animal Encounters in the Green Dragon Wildlife Zone

Green Dragon Eco Farm opened its new Wildlife Zone in August 2018, following months of planning, fund-raising and construction. This exciting and ever-evolving project now enables visitors to view British and European native species up close and enhances the already popular Animal Encounters Programme with talks and demonstrations involving the new wildlife, such as the Red Squirrels, Wallabies and Birds Of Prey. There are also daily training sessions with the Silver Fox and Ravens.

Protection & Conservation
The Wildlife Zone’s aim is to support the protection and conservation of British and European native animals that are ‘conservation sensitive’ which means they are at risk in the wild and there is a need for active conservation to protect their populations. The five-acre reserve consists of extra-large enclosed environments for the animals, a central, covered teaching space, and an outdoor display lawn for demonstrations and flying displays. Interpretation boards and interactive talks give information about each species, their link to UK native habitats and how conservation can help them in the wild.

Outdoor Learning
In addition to appealing to older children and offering additional curriculum links, the new species mean that the Green Dragon Animal Encounters Programme is now even more fascinating for the visiting public. And for those visitors wanting extra special close encounters with the wildlife, Ranger for a Day – an exciting and exclusive experience for 10 to 17 year olds, is a great option for birthdays and special occasions.

Halloween Halfterm
The Green Dragon Halloween event is running from 20th to 31st October 2018. This is a family friendly event that hosts a variety of themed, educational and fun experiences and activities, such as a special Halloween Animal Encounters Programme that includes the Dragon-Witch and her creepy creatures in the crypt. The pumpkins, grown in the orchard, are ready for the Pick-Your-Own Pumpkin Carving Experience which is hugely popular with visitors as well as the Scarecrow Trail that will take visitors out and about on the farm.
